Abruptum - Casus Luciferi (2003)

Strictly a duo comprising of ophthalamia founder It and Marduk member Evil (aka Morgan Håkansson), Stockholm's Abruptum are an extreme Satanic Death Metal band. What they lack in song structure, they make up for with a tendency to be rather heavy on unnerving screams and avant-garde rhythms and noises. The band's reputation is almost enhanced with tales that It (aka Tony Särkää) is alleged to be one of the prime movers behind the Satanic Black Circle movement. This album consists you of four lengthy tracks clocking around 40 minutes of ambient hellish atmosphere and digital noise. I found this somewhere on the net and was very pleasantly surprised at what I heard: dark, brooding atmospheres spiced up with medieval rhythms and leanings towards noise. Not quite easy listening, though. And for those who are interested, "Casus Luciferi" is Latin for "The Fall Of Lucifer".
