V.A. - Artificial Intelligence II (1994)

Warp (Weird And Radical Projects) Records, owned and operated by Steve Beckett and Rob Mitchell (who sadly passed away in 2001), is one of the world's most respected and loved electronic and experimental dance labels. Founded in Sheffield in 1989, the label soon became home to artists who would be highly influential in shaping the future of music. Warp released a series of singles and albums from 1992 under the "Artificial Intelligence" heading, a series of experimental electronic music releases by artists such as Aphex Twin (as Diceman and later Polygon Window), Autechre, the Black Dog, Richie Hawtin and Alex Paterson (later of the Orb). The two various-artist albums comprising the downtempo Artificial Intelligence series remain seminal ambient techno releases and ample proof that the re-emergence of ambient via the dance music scene was - far from being the fad some accused it of - one of the most exciting and creative developments in late 20th century music.
