Musique de la Grèce antique

riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay, brings us by a commodiero vicus of recirculation back to Pax Castle and Hierusalaam.

Even though music was an essential part of ancient Greek life and culture, as numerous literary and artistic references indicate, practically nothing remains of it today. However, thanks to extensive scholarship (commencing with Atansius Kircher in the Renaissance) and a shrewd use of the imagination, it appears to have become possible to approximate the music that was played at the time of the great Greek tragedies and comedies. Do give this release a try, as it really is some pretty interesting material. More info is provided in the rar file itself. Hope you like it...

And hey, "anonymous", you say that the paniagua brothers are always interesting... What else have they done then?

Boy can I ask stupid questions! I just found out I actually own another paniagua bro's album: La Folia De La Spagna - which will therefore have to be uppe-uppe-upped and away pretty soon... :-)

stoopid meinkey

la folia is a good one
gregorio paniagua throws some modern twists
into classic forms
the paniagua bros cut a few albums for the harmonia mundi label..another good one is tarantelle,,,which is a dance attributed to the bite of the tarantula
the brothers then split up and recorded many albums as solo..particularly louis paniagua who has remained very active
now wheres that track 2??
hahaha
cheers

this shit is awesome...it reminds me of jim morrison and the Doors at their most primitive and far-out, like the end and when the music's over...sparse weird sounds with spoken word poetry on top...anyone else get that vibe?

Nice to hear so many of you like this stuff. Perhaps you should check out some of the ol' tragedies and comedies... Just don't read the REALLY old ones: stick to Euripides, Aeschilus (comedy) and especially Seneca for the dark and gory stuff. Dive into the past!

hi,
this interesting stuff is NOT downloadable.... megaupload says "it is forbidden for violating some rules...".
no idea, what this means....

because I@m in the teaching profession (latin, greek) this would (!) have been very interesting - it's a pity.

maybe something can be done ?????
I'd be very grateful!!!

all the best with Your marvellous blog!

hi,

megaupload seems to be a little (?) bit crazy sometimes (?).....
- now I tried to download once again... - and... - everything was okay! I'm glad because these are very exciting and interesting tracks.
ah, by the way aeschilys wrote tragedies..., the one with the comedies was aristophanes (or later menander & others).

:-) :-) :-)

all the best
